Since his childhood Mehdi Becquet practices chinese martial arts before meeting capoeira in 1992. At the age of 18 he went for two years to Beijing to learn the Chinese language and perfectionize wushu. He graduates at the french lycée in Hong Kong and gets the diplima of the 'Institut des Langues O' in chinese language and civilization.
After he received his official capoeira teacher belt in Paris in 1998 at the Mairá Association, from which he now is the president, he becomes the first European contra-mestre of capoeira in 2006. On behalf of the Berimbau de Ouro school, he teaches capoeira at the Sorbonne, at the Université Paris-Dauphine and also at Sciences Po and he regularly travels to Brazil.
Right hand of Mestre Marreta, he represents the highest belt of this school in France and is responsible for the activities of the Association Berimbau de Ouro. Contra-mestre Mehdi already prepared two teachers: professor Nabil, teaching in Le Havre and professor Skander, teaching in Paris.
Specialist in the percussion instruments of the capoeira orchestra and amateur sambista, he regularly playes the pagode, the very festive popular samba style. He also gives classes, workshops and concerts everywhere in France - Rouen, Paris, Le Havre, Figeac and Martinique - as well as in Tahiti and in other European countries like Germany, the Netherlands and Finland. He is a professional massagist, gediplomeerd in traditional Thai therapeutic massage, the Nuad Boran and he practices and studying also yoga.
