Social projects
The Brazilian Associação de Capoeira Berimbau de Ouro and the Dutch-based Stichting Capoeira Berimbau de Ouro work together to realize several objects:
helping children, adolescents and special groups (handicapped people, women) to develop their fysical, mental and professional skills through capoeira, music, dance and other activities;
organizing intercultural meeting and exchange by people of all ages, men and women, all colours, nationalities and cultures;
making people realize that culture, nature and peace need to be preserved, cherished and stimulated
and of course organize nice capoeira meetings and parties!
Ambitious? Idealistic? We are trying to do it in our own modest way and you can join us! Go to our different project pages to learn more.

Each year we organize holiday weeks for children and adolescents from Escola de Capoeira Berimbau de Ouro, situated in the suburbs of Montes Claros. Most of them never travel and seldom experience nature.
In those holiday weeks they learn about nature and how to preserve it, they help on the farm and meet other young people (often from other parts of the town and from Europe) participating in the project.
In 2009 for the fifth time the Colibri-holidays will be organized.

Project Impurrão - 'Push in the back'
In 2007 and 2008, together with the municipality of Montes Claros several special courses were organized with financial support of Kindermissionswerk Die Sternsinger from Germany (www.sternsinger.org)
Apart from the regular capoeira classes, children learned to make music instruments, decorative objects with recycled material, clothes, they learned the silk screen technique. There was also a regular percussion class. The women of the neighbourhood were invited to join the hair dressers course. Unfortunately the elections of a new city council in November 2008 put everything on hold, hopefully the Prefeitura of Montes Claros wants to continue working with us on this very nice project. At the farm Fazenda Mandacarú poor families are offered a new opportunity. They will get 3 ha of land to learn how to plant, harvest and to find out if farming may be their future. They will get support with machines, seeds and knowledge in this project, called Palmarinos, by the Associação de Capoeira Berimbau de Ouro and the agricultural school Escola Agricola in Montes Claros. A special water bassin was built to provide irrigation.
At the moment we are waiting the permission to cut the small plants (not the trees!!!) on this piece of the farm. Unfortunately the local bureaucracy is not so fast.... to be continued.
workshops and activities around the production, revaluation, beneficiation, transport and marketing of food. Construction of a mill house for manioc flour, a sweets house, a community oven and apiculture (beekeeping). Looking for ways to transport and market the food.
Water
debates and exchange of ideas about the local river Riachão and source Tiririca, how not to pollute them, how to broaden them, how to preserve the water for people, animals, nature and farms.
Nature
re-descovering and revitalize the special and dissapearing vegetation of the cerrado with its unique flora and fauna.
